HyWest is an Austrian flagship regional hydrogen implementation project within the WIVA P&G programme, integrating production, refuelling infrastructure and mobility applications in Tyrol between 2020 and 2025.
This page documents the official completion presentation of the HyWest flagship region project held at the Tyrolean State Parliament in October 2025. The event marked the conclusion of the five-year implementation phase and presented the participating institutions, implemented infrastructure and demonstrated applications. The documentation serves as a primary reference describing scope, partners and operational context of the project.

Project Context & Objectives

The WIVA P&G HyWest flagship project served as a model for the development of a largely autonomous regional green hydrogen economy in western Austria, integrating production, storage and mobility applications. HyWest was conducted within the Austrian WIVA P&G programme as a regional implementation project focusing on hydrogen mobility and infrastructure integration.

  • Duration: 2020–2025
  • Project Type: Regional implementation and demonstration
  • Scope: Integration of production, refuelling infrastructure and end-use applications within a defined regional ecosystem

The project aimed to evaluate operational feasibility under real regulatory, logistical and organisational conditions with the key Outcomes:

  • operational hydrogen mobility demonstrated
  • coordinated infrastructure deployment
  • multi-stakeholder governance tested
  • regional supply chain established

Participating Organisations

The project involved partners from public administration, research and industry sectors are: FEN Systems, HyCentA, TIWAG, TINEXT, MPREIS, FEN Research, Energy Institute at JKU, Zillertalbahn AG and WIVA P&G. The presentation included contributions from project coordination, infrastructure operators, mobility users and regional governance representatives, reflecting the multi-stakeholder structure required for system deployment.
