On 16 September 2025, Georgios Arvanitakis from DLR Institue of Future Fuels presented new results on the SO₂ Depolarized Electrolyser (SDE), a core element of HySelect’s Hybrid Sulphur (HyS) pathway for solar-driven green hydrogen at FEMS EUROMAT 2025.
The talk entitled “Parametric investigation of the operation of an SO2 Depolarized Electrolyser for Hydrogen production” examined how operating parameters (SO₂ feed, acid concentration, temperature, current density, stack design) affect efficiency, durability, and scale-up, supporting HySelect’s goal to couple thermochemical sulphuric-acid decomposition with low-temperature SDE to reduce electricity demand versus conventional electrolysis.
